GAY DATING APPS TARGET SPORTS-MAD AMERICANS

First it was gay dating site Scruff ruffling the feathers of middle America after it debuted one of its advertising campaigns on two 48ft x 14ft digital billboards targeting Super Bowl visitors to Arizona’s University of Phoenix Stadium.

The two huge billboards, one on the highway leading up to the arena, the second in the car park directly next to the stadium, featured two buff guys in a locker room, holding footballs. Not to be outdone, Squirt.org, the hook-up and cruising listings site, soon rolled out its mobile billboard which features a couple of half-naked men with the slogan, “Meet Mr Right Now” emblazoned on it.

“Football is one of the most homoerotic sports that a gay man fantasize about, with well-built jocks running around in tight uniforms, slapping each other’s butts,” said Attila Szatmari, Squirt.org’s digital business director. “Squirt.org is the best place for meeting and cruising men and we wanted to remind people of that as our mobile truck cruises around Phoenix. Not only will there be lots of cruising happening in University of Phoenix Stadium public washrooms, we bet that all gay ‘cruising’ spots will be busy during the big game,” he said.
