GOING IN FOR THE KILL… IAN

Killian James is not just another rent boy on the scene. At 24, the former fitness trainer is a blue ribbon escort, winning the title of Best Bottom at this year’s Hookies. The ambitious entrepreneur views his job as a business and is determined to set a new standard in escorting and adult entertainment. “My main objective is to provide an amazing experience for my clients.” That doesn’t always mean sex. What Killian offers is companionship. “Companionship with endless options,” he adds.

Growing up, did you dream of becoming a rent boy?

(Laughing) If you told me a year ago I’d be in this position, I would have told you that you had the wrong guy. I didn’t even know what an escort was until a few years ago. Growing up, I dreamed of being a fisherman.  I used to love going out on my grandfather’s boat.

Why is there a negative connotation associated with bottoming?

When someone hears ‘bottom’, they automatically think inferior and lacking power. It simply isn’t the case. Regardless of the position, sex is about two people coming together and pleasuring one another.  If it didn’t feel good, we bottoms wouldn’t be doing it.

Have you always been proud of your bottom status?

Absolutely! I like to think I’m coming of age in a time where bottoms are powerful. It’s our choice to give it up.

Of course, there is also a negative connotation associated with being an escort.

People outside the industry seem to have one hell of a hard time trying to understand what we do.

    What don’t they get?

The biggest misconception people have about escorting is that we are only sought after to provide an erotic experience.  Truthfully, most clients want something emotionally deeper than sex.

What’s the biggest misperception people have about you?

Some guys think that I’m not approachable because of what they read about on the Internet.

    Are you approachable?

Sure!  I’m just a normal 20-something living a unique life.

How did you get into escorting?

I was a relatively successful fitness trainer in Chelsea (New York), but something was missing. I felt like I was stuck in this box without any room to grow.  I needed to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do with myself. I knew I wanted a career where I could steer my own ship and carefully plan out the next chapters of my life.

Where do you see yourself going from here?

I can see myself possibly being a big name in the adult entertainment world.  My ultimate goal, though, is to open up a very high-end bed and breakfast that caters to the LGBT community.

    You obviously enjoy servicing people.

I do!  I love people and client service. Escorting happens to heavily involve both.

How was the first time escorting for you?

It was great. I’ve been very lucky to come across very normal and wonderful people.

    Have you always enjoyed sex?

Sex is great, however, I don’t think anyone can be in the mood all the time. For the most part, I find myself enjoying my encounters.

“I like to think I’m coming of age in a time where bottoms are powerful. It’s our choice to give it up.”

Is escorting like any job with its good and bad days?

After coming from a corporate job, I can tell you that my best days during that time were far worse than my worst days now. The worst aspect of the day is not having scheduled tasks to do. I try to schedule my day, such as going to the gym and doing errands, to keep myself as busy as possible.

Do you read all your reviews?

I read every single thing that’s published about me, whether it’s on a review site or a blog.

How do you feel about clients rating you?

I’m not concerned about it because I know I provide an amazing experience. I think the escort review process and the forums have really done a lot of escorts well. The guys who are rated badly need to clean up. Once an escort’s name is tarnished, he can change his name a hundred times, but the damage is done.

Do you think you might go into porn?

I’m open to it.  I haven’t done it yet because I wanted to establish myself as a professional escort first so I’m known as an escort who does porn, rather than a porn star who needs to escort.

Do you have a specific studio in mind?

I think with social media it’s very possible for someone to gain notoriety in the adult entertainment industry, without working with a big name production company at first. However, I’m always open and willing to engage in new and exciting opportunities.

How long can a rent boy’s career last?

I know escorts who’ve been a rent boy since it all started, and they are still going strong. Escorting is one of those careers where not everyone has to be young with a perfect body. There’s an audience for everyone.
