30/07/2011: Set up in 1981, SM Gays reached the ripe old age of 30 back in July and celebrated with an appropriately big ole bash at the Hoist.As one of London’s longest running gay support groups, SM Gays is run by volunteers and has been providing education and support to the gay male sadomasochist (SM) community for over three decades and as an attendee of many of their monthly ‘Discovery Nights’ we can happily report that we have put much of what we’ve learnt in to practice!
The birthday itself was, as all SMG events, non dress code but the majority still used the occasion to advertise their predilections donning leather, rubber, uniforms and more (or sometimes less), and the shows were also bigger and more visual than usual with expert Japanese rope bondage demonstrated on a very cute young pup and an SM domination scene played out to an appreciative crowd.
It was a refreshing, non-attitude night at the Hoist and was packed to the rafters with men not normally seen in the venue. A very happy birthday SM Gays, and here’s to the next thirty years.
